The festival of Deepawali and Entrepreneurship!

Hey! no I haven’t gone crazy here!

Hindus all over the world celebrate the festival of Deepawali or more commonly known as Diwali. Diwali is being celebrated by the White House as well since a past few years (they know the importance of Geopolitical situation of India, Politics! ūüėČ ).

The popular story related Diwali is the return of Lord Shri Ram to the holy city of Ayodhya. People lighted lamps and the city was enlightened as if the Sun had shone in the night. From this it got the name, “Deeapvali, which means , a line of lamps”. But there is another interesting fact hidden in the celebration of this major festival.

The worship of Goddess Laxmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu, and the one who showers her devotees with wealth and prosperity!

In earlier days, this puja (worship) was done only in the house of Businessmen (‘Baniyas’ as they’re called). But nowadays its a household practise on the occassion of Diwali.

Now what does that have to  do with entrepreneurs ?Look at the image below!

Lord Ganesh, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati

Lord Ganesh, on the left is the GOD of wisdom and Brains. He sort of represents the Idea which comes to an Entrepreneur‘s mind. His vehicle is the Mouse, which is swift and goes away in a flash. Similar thing is to an IDEA, which comes and if not acted upon fast goes away in a flash to some other opportunist.

Goddess Lakshmi, in the middle is the Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity. For an Entrepreneur Idea is not enough, he requiers capital and funds for his success. So the second thing an Entrepreneur needs is capital or in simpler terms, money.

Goddess Saraswati is the giver of knowledge and wisdom. An entrepreneur with capital if lacks in knowledge or wisdom, he is doomed to get failed in his venture. Either knowledge or collaboration with knowledgeable person(s) is necessary. The white swan symbolizes purity of wisdom( in some sense ethical behavior).

Unfortunately, with the advance in time, the diwali puja has lost all the significance it carries and have been transformed into a worship that is performed for money and prosperity.

Everything mentioned here is not written in any scripture. I had a long thought on it and after 20 days of constant thinking, what would have been my first post is my 24th post.

I hope you read and collected a drop of the ocean. Many more still to come by! Keep following, Keep Reading, Keep Learning!

Adios!
